The brief
An unmodernised three-bedroom flat in a listed New Town tenement, with a fixed budget and a brief to add a bedroom and two shower rooms without losing what made the flat special.
The work
We moved the kitchen to the front of the building to free space for a fourth bedroom, carved two shower rooms out of old storage space, and replaced the heating, plumbing and wiring throughout. Original cornice work, shutters and fireplaces were repaired rather than replaced, and heritage rooflights were fitted where the plans called for more light. The budget didn't move, so the scope was managed to fit it.

The client's words
“Professional, knowledgeable and experienced, with great careful attention to historic detail: doweling corners, cornice repairs, refurbished shutters and fireplaces. Nothing phased them. With their years of experience they tackled everything before, and when new problems cropped up they were creative and imaginative in finding solutions.”
